This is the 7th edition of the Hidden Places of Lancashire & Cheshire including the Isle of Man which has an attractive new cover and redesigned page layouts. The changes will significantly improve the usefulness, accessibility and appeal of the guide. We do hope you like the new look. In this respect we would like to thank the Tourist Information Centres who helped us update the editorial content of the book.Lancashire is a county, which has lakes, woods, rolling hills, a sandy coastline and many picturesque towns and villages. Cheshire is a county of scenic contrasts. To the east are high moorlands and crags, to the west are the soft red sandstone plains of the Mersey and Dee, whilst to the south may be found a rich, pastoral landscape. Visitors to both counties will certainly find evidence of the significant contributions they have made to England’s industrial, political, social and cultural heritage. The Isle of Man is blessed with beautiful scenery, sandy beaches, a very interesting heritage and lively seaside resorts. Lancashire, Cheshire and the Isle of Man are definitely worth a visit!
The Hidden Places of Lancashire & Cheshire including the Isle of Man contains a wealth of information on the history, culture and the hundreds of interesting places to be found within the two counties and island. But it also promotes the more secluded and little known visitor attractions and advertises places to stay, eat and drink many of which are easy to miss unless you know exactly where you are going. These are cross-referenced to more detailed information contained in a separate, easy-to-use section to the rear of the book. This section is also available as a free supplement from the local Tourist Information Offices.
We include hotels, bed & breakfasts, restaurants, pubs, bars, teashops and cafes as well as historic houses, museums, gardens and many other attractions throughout Lancashire, Cheshire and the Isle of Man – all of which are comprehensively indexed. Many places are accompanied by an attractive photograph and are easily located by using the map at the beginning of each chapter. We do not award merit marks or rankings but concentrate on describing the more interesting, unusual or unique features of each place with the aim of making the reader’s stay in the local area an enjoyable and stimulating experience.
Whether you are travelling around Lancashire, Cheshire and the Isle of Man on business or for pleasure we do hope that you enjoy reading and using this book.
